- Diarrhea Medications
- • Kaopectate. Take 25 to 50 mL (2 to 4 tbsp.) after each loose bowel movement.
- • Diphenoxylate. One to two tablets every four hours as needed. You can take with Kaopectate or loperamide.
- Maximum eight tablets per day.
- • Loperamide. Two capsules initially, then one to two capsules every two to four hours. Maximum 16 capsules
- per day.
- • Cholestyramine. A bile-salt sequestering agent. One packet after each meal and at bedtime.
- • Donnatal or psyllium. Anticholinergic, antispasmodic agents for bowel cramping. One to two tablets every
- four hours as needed.
- • When all else fails, try psyllium plus Kaopectate.
